The Womble Trail Project

See the Rock Work on the Womble Trail, with Rock provided by Bell and Company.

The Womble Trail is one of the best known trails in the country, as well as the favorite ride for many Arkansas cyclists. Now is your chance to have a role in keeping the trail up to the standards that Arkansans and U.S. cyclists have come to expect. By adopting a section of trail (approximately 1 mile) and keeping it up, you will be insuring that cyclists years in the future will have this great resource.  The Ouachita Cycling Club and the Forest Service will manage this program in an informal manner with very little paper work. Anyone can sign up for the program: cyclists, hikers, runners; from out of state or from Arkansas. If you would like to volunteer follow the instructions below.

See the current list of Volunteers and the Trail Conditions!

I am Answering the call now!

What do I need to do?

  1. Sign up: Send your name and physical mailing address to
    Scottmtbr@yahoo.com.
  2. If you have a favorite piece of trail that you would like to adopt include that information. We will try to give you that mile or another as close to that as possible.
  3. With the approval of the coordinator miles can be traded so most volunteers will eventually get the section that they seek.

After I am chosen???

You will need to sign a Forest Service volunteer release form
that we will mail to you.
(You will be working with the Ouachita Cycling Club)

  • Keep the trail in good condition. Keep the brush cut back, remove rocks and debris, keep drains open so that water will run off the trail, paint blazes etc. The Ouachita Cycling Club and the Forest Service will take care of large down trees and major trail renovations.
  • The Ouachita Cycling Club has weedeaters and other tools to loan but a dependable weedeater of your own would be a great asset.
  • Also you may be required to attend a short safety/trail techniques session before you go to work.
  • Keep the Ouachita Cycling Club’s Womble Trail coordinator aware of trail conditions and report your hours of work.

What do I get????

  • Satisfaction of making a contribution for you and future cyclists.
  • Credit on the OCC web site as an adopter.
  • Your name posted on the trail.
  • Hours credited to the AMBCS Pay Dirt program.
  • If you do not want your name to be publicly announced that is fine. Clubs or groups can be listed as an adopter, however our records will show the one person who will be responsible.
